Thượng nghị sĩ Bernie Sanders, ứng viên lão niên của đảng Dân Chủ trong cuộc bầu cử nội bộ, đã bắt đầu chiến dịch vận động tranh cử vào ngày 02/03/2019, trước 3.000 người ủng hộ tập trung tại trường Brooklyn College, nơi ông Sanders từng theo học đại học. Một số điểm nổi bật trong chương trình của ông Sanders là học đại học miễn phí, có mức lương tối thiểu và bảo hiểm y tế phổ quát.
